Our mission at Ribblesdale is to ensure that every pupil; Learns to Read, Reads to Learn and Loves to Read.

Learn to Read

Reading is the foundation of our Early Years curriculum and forms the backbone of our cohesive through-school offer. All pupils’ reading is closely monitored and struggling readers are supported from the Early Years right through to Key Stage 4. There are a range of resources to support this aim, including software and intervention packages, and the support of specially trained staff.

Read to Learn

We believe that reading is the gateway to understanding and achievement. All pupils at Ribblesdale will be immersed in a wealth of reading resources and opportunities in all subjects. Teachers foster a love of reading through a reading-rich curriculum and explore a wide range of texts. This makes a vital contribution to every child’s educational achievement and personal development. All staff, regardless of specialism, are advocates for reading, literacy and oracy so that our high expectations are clear to all pupils across school.

Love to Read

The primary site’s bespoke designed library is at the heart of our brand new £9M building, and the secondary school’s library has been subject to a £750K remodelling and refurbishment project.

In the new secondary library, we are proud to host our well-attended weekly ‘Book Club’ and our annual ‘Lit Fest’ of visiting authors and poets, ensuring that reading remains relevant and engaging throughout school life. We are constantly evolving our approach to reading, from our newly founded ‘Pupil Reading Ambassador Programme’ to our school-wide primary and secondary ‘Book Challenges’ which encourage all pupils to engage in a diverse and varied world of words.
