Mathematics is essential in every walk of life: whether to budget for the weekly shop; understand data in newspapers or to complete your tax return! The mathematics department has nine teachers, all of whom have their own dedicated teaching room with an interactive whiteboard. We use a variety of up-to-date teaching methods and resources to engage pupils and relate their mathematical knowledge to the world around them.
Pupils are taught in ability groups to enable them to receive the appropriate teaching and to achieve their true potential. These sets are regularly monitored and pupils’ progress is assessed every term.
The department has an excellent Subject Support Assistant (SSA) who works to ensure that all resources and administration are prepared and completed effectively in order to maintain the effectiveness of the department.
The department also benefits from a dedicated ICT suite which every class uses once or twice each half term to enhance their learning experience by using specific software for tasks such as data analysis or geometric investigation for shape and space topics.
We subscribe to an interactive ICT package “MyMaths”; this gives all pupils access to interactive lessons on the internet which they can use to reinforce their understanding and for revision. They each have a personal login and they and their teacher can track their progress throughout the year.
