Law Visit to the Old Bailey
London Trip 2011
On Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th July forty Year 8 students visited London for the English Department’s annual Theatre Visit.
The students were lucky enough to watch the newly released Shrek on Wednesday evening starring: Nigel Lindsay as Shrek, Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona, Nigel Harman as the hilarious Lord Farquaad and Richard Blackwood as Donkey. Both students and staff were mesmerised by the staging and special effects and in fits of uncontrollable laughter throughout the performance – a definite must see for anyone visiting London.
GCSE Law Trip
The year 10 GCSE law students visited the capital on Monday and Tuesday this week and had a fantastic time. They went to the Old Bailey on Monday to watch a murder trial and observe the pathologist giving his evidence as to the cause of death. They then went to the Royal Courts of Justice where there was a flurry of media activity as Rio Ferdinand was in court 13 in a claim against the Sunday Mirror about a reported story of his private life. The students then went into court 14 where they observed a liable case against the American art critic Sarah Thornton where she was being cross examined by the claimant’s barrister. Tuesday saw them visit the Houses of Parliament with an audience with Nigel Evans and Lord Tebbit and a trip to the Supreme Court. Of course there was shopping and a show where Nigel Lindsay played a fantastic Shrek and Amanda Holden was a beautiful Princess Fiona. The students were excellent and certainly learnt about real life law and justice.
