Celebrate the Chefs
Celebrate the Chefs was an event for year 11 worth 30% of their H&C GCSE dual award. We linked in with the Northcote Group for it. They have ‘adopted’ us as a school to work together on events and projects and offering our pupils work experience and places on Northcote’s apprentiship scheme. The theme for the event was ‘Support our local farmers and traders.’ The pupils were split into groups and were each mentored by a head chef from different establishments from the group including Lisa Allen the Head Chef at Northcote Manor. The pupils were given a budget of £20 for a two course meal. The event was held in the Red Rose Suite at Ewood Park and became a cook off type competition. The pupils were awarded marks on aspects such as team work, costings, sourcing their ingredients locally, skills shown, outcome of dishes…etc. It was a close call but the winners were ‘The Roux Sisters’ consisting of Abigail Hamer, Abigail Cardwell, Charlotte Griffiths and Beth Jones, mentored by Lisa Allen. Parents were invited along to support the pupils and have a chance to view and taste the outcomes.
