School Closure Due to Industrial Action

letter-writing

Dear Parents,

we have been informed by the NUT and the ATL unions that they will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Thursday 30 June 2011. This action is not against the school itself but is part of national industrial action organised by these trade unions about changes to the pension schemes of their members. There is no requirement on unions to inform us of which members of staff will take action, but it is likely that around a third of our teachers will take action on this day.

Neither the governing body nor the head is legally allowed to close the school ‘in sympathy’ with the strike and we will not do so. However, our main concern is the safety of our students. We will not be able to adequately supervise pupils where their lessons are affected by teachers taking industrial action, so regrettably the school will be closed to all pupils.

Please see the associated letter about the Comenius Project .Year 10 work placements will be unaffected.

School will be open normally for all pupils the following day.

Yours faithfully

S A Smith
