Ribblesdale pupil wins npower’s national hunt for designer
Autumn Robinson, a year 10 pupil at Ribblesdale School, Clitheroe, has today (01.03.2011) been unveiled as the winner of npower’s nationwide design competition. The competition – launched by celebrity stylist Nicky Hambleton-Jones in December – called for budding young designers to create new uniforms for one of the most famous promotional teams in the UK – the npower Girls and Boys.
Over the past 10 years, the npower Girls have become a regular and iconic feature at cricket grounds to help cheer on the players during the Test and Ashes Series. Recently they have been joined by the Boys and now the team can be seen showing their support at npower Football League matches nationwide, after npower became the official sponsor in August 2010.
Autumn’s designs won judges over with their perfect mix of creativity and practicality. Emma Collins, sponsorship manager at npower, commented:
“The team at npower is delighted with Autumn’s winning designs and we’re looking forward to seeing them brought to life for the start of the new 2011 /2012 football season in August. The outfits Autumn created are not only stylish but they are practical too – incorporating waterproof materials, pockets and even some fashionable faux fur for warmth!
“We want to pass on huge congratulations to Autumn and say a massive well done to her for creating the designs. The win is a fantastic accolade as the outfits will be viewed by thousands of people when the npower Girls and Boys visit sports grounds across the UK. I’m sure Autumn will have a very bright future ahead and I’m proud npower has been able to offer her first big break.”
Autumn Robinson added: “It’s amazing to have won npower’s design competition and I just can’t believe my designs were picked. I’m still in shock as npower surprised me in my school assembly!
“Designing clothes is something I do in my spare time at the moment but I definitely want to pursue a career as a fashion designer, so this will be a brilliant piece for my portfolio.”
