Amendment to holiday dates for Summer term

Dear Parents,

you will be aware that the government has indicated it will seek approval to designate Friday 29 April 2011 as a bank-holiday to mark the wedding of Prince William.

This creates a very short two day teaching week, as pupils return to school on Wednesday 27 April. I am acutely aware that Year 11 pupils will miss vital teaching time – two days teaching in a period of slightly over three weeks, including the Easter break. We must consider ways to maximise all available teaching time and ensure progression in learning for all our pupils.

I am writing to tell you that all pupils will now return to school following the Easter break a day earlier, on Tuesday 26 April. School will close for the summer one day earlier, on Thursday 21 July 2011.

For a very small minority of you, I am sorry this will be inconvenient. Any pupil absence linked to holiday arrangements as a family on 26 April will not be penalised.
