Comenius trip to Mazamet France June 2010

June 2010 136For the past 2 years Ribblesdale School has been involved in a Comenius project with three schools from Germany, France and Spain. The focus of the project has been music and on the 19th of June 8 Ribblesdale pupils represented the School and England in an International Concert in Mazamet. They performed a selection of Enlgish songs and English covers spectacularly and the standing ovation at the end of their set really said it all. Following this all four schools joined together to sing Ode to Joy in German, and Beethoven’s European Hymn in all four languages. During the four days we were there the pupils rehearsed at the Apollo theatre, sung unaccompanied for the Mayor in the Town Hall and spent time in the company of the other schools. Overall the trip was a massive success and the pupils were a credit to themselves, their Parents and Ribblesdale.

In June next year the final concert will take place when all countries will meet in Clitheroe and perform together at the Grand.

Set list

  • ‘Imagine’: All
  • ‘Use Somebody’: Rhian Melvin
  • ‘Up’: April, Grace, Leilah, Shameema, Ynez
  • ‘Over the rainbow’: Irsah Shah
  • ‘Moment like this’: Shannon Bond
  • ‘Beatles Medley’: All

Well done everyone!

PGL trip to Boreatton Park Shropshire

PGL Trip 2010This year Ribblesdale took a group of year 8 pupils on a PGL Adventure holiday in June. Pupils spent 4 days of challenges including High ropes, rafting open canoe, zip wire and puzzle challenge courses. It was inevitable that not only did pupils have to overcome balancing on wires 20 feet in the air but also get extremely wet on the river and lakes.

Transition programme for pupils in Year 6

Dear Parents,

in September your son or daughter will be coming to Ribblesdale to join Year 7. I would like to welcome you and anticipate a fruitful learning partnership with you and your son or daughter. There are two aspects to the transition programme:

  • pupils coming to Ribblesdale for a ‘taster day’
  • main transition event: an invitation to you to join us at school to hear in more detail about the first term and to meet your son or daughter’s coach, Miss Parkinson (Year Leader), Mrs Marsland (Pastoral Coordinator) and other key staff.

On Wednesday 30 June at 9am we have arranged for Year 6 pupils to come to Ribblesdale for the day. I have asked your son or daughter’s current headteacher for permission for them to attend. They will be able to take part in a number of sample lessons and activities throughout the day.

In order to confirm your son or daughter’s attendance, you are kindly asked to complete an on-line form; from this we will gather the information we need to make the day run smoothly. The web address is shown at the bottom of this letter. It is clear what to do when you ‘log on’. For those without internet access, you are invited to telephone the school where you will be asked for the relevant information. Please ask to speak to Mrs Brass.

Transport, if required, to and from Ribblesdale, is the responsibility of parents. On arrival, pupils should make their way to the main front door from where they will be directed. However, schools that are local to Ribblesdale may decide to accompany pupils and walk their Year 6 class directly from primary school and back again. Your headteacher will advise if this is the case or whether pupils should make their own way to Ribblesdale. The day starts at 9am and finishes at 2.30pm. (Pupils will be released home or return with their class group to primary school.)

Lunch can be purchased in the school’s dining room for a flat rate charge of £1.50. Pupils wishing to bring a packed lunch may do so. Pupils entitled to a free school meal should indicate this on the form or when asked if telephoning.

On either 30 June or 1 July at 6.30pm, parents and their son or daughter will be invited to attend the main transition event on one of these dates in school. We hold this event over two evenings in order to comfortably accommodate our new pupils and their parents. You will be invited to this event separately.

If you have any further queries please contact the school and we will do our best to help.

I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks time.

Yours sincerely

S A Smith (Head Teacher)

Ribblesdale Sports Injury Clinic

Picture 006Attention all!! Ribblesdale School now has its very own Injury Clinic. As from the 7th June 2010 all pupils can gain access to the injury clinic free of charge for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of any injury they have sustained inside or outside school. The team can also provide referrals if, post assessment, the injury needs further investigation. The P.E. department have linked up with the University of Central Lancashire to put together a team of 3 graduate Sports Therapists to come and work in school full time. The team consists of Helena Boryslawskyj, Alex Dexter and Rachael Haslem, with David Rhodes working as their supervisor. All three are fully qualified and insured through the Society of Sports Therapists. To be able to utilise this excellent and unique opportunity all you as parents need to do is fill in the consent form and return it to the main reception at school. For further information please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Rhodes in the P.E. Department.
