New Additions to the Ribblesdale Community
Ribblesdale are happy to introduce new members to our Community! A pair of ducks have been nesting in one of the quadrants in the main building, next to a small pond. This week ducklings have hatched and are happily waddling around!
Football Triumphs
The Year 11’s final was an outstanding evening beating St Augustines 2-0. Najeeb Shakoor coming on as sub to score both goals! The team have been an excellent asset to the school and will be sorely missed when they leave. Over the past 5 years they have won 7 out of a possible 10 trophies narrowly missing out on 3! A big thankyou to all the boys and their parents for showing such a great attitude over the years when participating and watching games.
Ross Dent, who has been the captain for 5 years must also be recognised for his outstanding contribution to Ribblesdale sport, the way he has organised and led the team has been exemplary. Thank you from all the PE staff.
The Year 7’s was a very one sided game from an up and coming side, who I am sure will do very well throughout their 5 years at Ribblesdale. They have trained very well and deserved their victory, which was against Rhyddings of Oswaldtwistle. The game finished 5-1 with goals from Callum Darcy (2), Harry Yerkess, Harry Russell and ‘Man of the Match’ Oliver Cruise. The team have also won the league title and finished runners up in the Lancashire cup (out of 72 schools) an outstanding achievement again. Well done boys.
Year 10 Trip to Bolton Abbey
On Thursday 20th May Year 10 Art and Design pupils took part in a trip to Bolton Abbey, Skipton. As part of their GCSE coursework they have been working on a project based on the work of John Piper an artist who’s work focused on landscape, especially churches. The purpose of this trip was to enhance their drawing skills by recording primary observations as part of their GCSE assessment objectives.
Ribblesdale Students Vote Results
On Thursday 6th May all Ribblesdale students were able to vote in the general election. The turnout was very high and the result is expected to be announced on Tuesday 11th May. We will upload our results onto the Google national database to see just who would have won the 11-16 vote.
And the results are in!!! Lewis Astin the returning officer annouced that there were 943 votes cast. 27 ballot papers were void.
Gordon Brown, Labour, 64 votes; David Cameron , Conservative, 398 votes; and Nick Clegg, Liberal Democrats, 454 votes, therefore the overall majority winner from the electorate at Ribblesdale High School is Nick Clegg with 48% of the vote! In theory, it would reflect the national vote in that it would be a hung parliament. Well done to everyone who voted.
Year 10 Visit the Old Bailey!
On Sunday 2nd May, year 10 Law students embarked on a visit to the capital to visit some of the most famous criminal courts in the UK, the Old Bailey and the Royal Courts of Justice. During the visit, they were able to observe a very interesting criminal case with 8 defendants(due to legal reasons we are not permitted to discuss the case). They also went to the Houses of Parliament and were momentarily in the heart of the General Election. The students were also treated to a theatre trip to see Oliver and finally visited Buckingham Palace, Harrods, the Natural History museum and the famous Hamleys store. The trip was amazing and the students very well behaved and great ambassadors for the school. Please see the pictures.
