SPLAT Trips are a Roaring Success
Year 7 pupils have had the opportunity to attend many exciting trips so far this term.
On the 11th November 4 year 7 classes visited Lancaster Castle. This was to link with the local area and community project. All of the year 7’s included information about the Lancaster witches in their projects. The groups were treated to a tour of the outside and sights of the real working prison. We were then escorted into the building to the torture room, where we saw a range of historical artefacts used for torture!
Another group completed a survey of the local people of Clitheroe to research beliefs and religious practices. They were also involved in the town Remembrance ceremony. Mr. Proud’s group visited URBIS in Manchester to learn about ‘City life.’ This was part of the ‘Town and Country Unit.’
On the 18th November Miss Hartley’s group visiting the Mosque in Nelson. They thoroughly enjoyed learning bout Muslim beliefs and practices. Pupils asked their own questions about the mosque and Muslim worship. The RE department hopes to organise further trips to the mosque in the future.
On the 25th November four year 7 groups were lucky enough to be visited by the town crier and ghost expert Mr Simon Entwistle. Miss Hartley’s group enjoyed a visit to St. James Church in Clitheroe, they talked to worshipers and looked around the church. Mr. Proud’s group learnt about life in the country at Gazegill Farm. Other groups were taken to the Lowry Centre in Manchester to learn about the life and works of Laurence Stephen Lowry.
Thanks to all SPLAT teachers for their efforts.
