Burns’ Night 2009

Year 9 Hospitality and Catering students cooked food and served it to guests in celebration of Burns’ Night on Monday the 26th January 2009.
Subject Leader for Hospitality and Catering, Mrs Mcleod said:
“it was a hugely successful Year 9 event. The pupils worked hard all day on preparations and then divided off to be ‘chefs’
or ‘waiting on staff’ on the night. Canapes of Home-made Oatcakes with Smoked Salmon Pate were served on arrival followed by Cock a Leekie Soup. Main course was Chicken stuffed with Haggis with a Creamy Mustard Sauce with seasonal veg. Dessert was a Raspberry and Whisky Cheesecake. The pupils were a credit to the school. Well done!”
Extended Schools Service (ESAS)
Ribblesdale opened its extended schools services (ESAS) on January 13th 2009, with a special storytelling performance by Simon Entwistle, local history, legend and ghost expert which was greatly enjoyed by all who came along.
We currently offer regular services and activities within three ‘zones’, to which everyone is welcome: the Skills and Learning Zone, the Chill Zone and the Health Zone.
View the Extended Schools Services page on our site for more information.
Careers Convention 2009
The school’s Careers Convention 2009 held on 19th January was attended by over 1200 pupils and 5 times as many parents as in previous years. Representatives from 21 colleges, sixth forms and training providers provided information and advice. Said Mrs Crewe, Acting Assistant Head:” It was a very busy day and we might look at a slightly larger venue next year. Pupils had been briefed in Coaching lessons and asked lots of questions. Teachers and post 16 providers were all at risk of losing their voices by the end of the day!”
The Careers Convention was combined with a “Trial Exam Results Day,”
organised by Mr Barker. Year 11 pupils received their trial exam results on a slip of pape just like they will do in August on the real results day, and then had to see if colleges etc. would accept them with their results.
Applied Learning at Ribblesdale: National Recognition
Ribblesdale school was selected by ITN news for a report on schools who do things differently. Ribblesdale was identified by ITN for it’s diverse and broad curriculum, where pupils are offered a wide range of choices, chances, collaboration and challenge. The video above was the news report that was aired on ITN News. We are extremely proud of our achievements and the recognition of them.
